Privacy Policy

Last updated:

1. Introduction

Welcome to Guesr ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit guesr.co.uk and play our free daily guessing games. Guesr does not require you to create an account or log in — you can play all games without providing any personal information.

2. Information We Collect

Because Guesr has no accounts or sign-ups, we collect very limited information:

  • Game progress (local storage): Your daily game saves, guess history, and stats are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers.
  • Anonymous usage data: We record anonymous game load events (e.g. which game was opened) to understand how our games are used. No personally identifiable information is attached to these events.
  • Analytics (with consent): If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymised data about page visits, device type, and general location (country/region level). This is only activated after you give consent via our cookie banner.
  • Advertising: If you accept cookies, Google AdSense may serve personalised ads and use cookies to do so. If you decline, non-personalised ads may still be shown.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and improve the Guesr games and website.
  • To understand which games are most popular and how players engage with them.
  • To serve advertisements that help keep Guesr free to play.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your information for marketing emails, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating and improving the site.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For visitors in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area (EEA), our legal bases for processing are:

  • Consent — for analytics cookies and personalised advertising (Google Analytics and AdSense). You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your cookies or adjusting your browser settings.
  • Legitimate interests — for anonymous game load event tracking, which helps us understand usage without identifying you.

5. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the site to function (e.g. remembering your cookie consent choice).
  • Analytics cookies (with consent): Google Analytics cookies that help us understand site traffic anonymously.
  • Advertising cookies (with consent): Google AdSense cookies used to serve relevant ads.

You can manage or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site. You can also control cookies through your browser settings.

6. Third-Party Services

Guesr uses the following third-party services which may process data independently under their own privacy policies:

We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any other third parties.

7. Data Retention

We do not store personal data on our servers. Your game saves and stats are held entirely in your own browser's localStorage and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data. Anonymous usage event data is retained for up to 26 months in line with Google Analytics' default retention settings.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding any data we hold:

  • The right to access information held about you.
  • The right to erasure of any data we hold.
  • The right to restrict or object to processing.
  • The right to withdraw consent for cookies at any time.

Because Guesr holds no personal accounts or profiles, most data rights can be exercised simply by clearing your browser cookies and localStorage. For any other requests, please contact us at [email protected].

9. Children's Privacy

Guesr is a free-to-play game site open to all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Since no accounts are required, no personal data is submitted to us during normal gameplay.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Guesr after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
